Motion sickness stops thousands of people from enjoying a lovely cruise holiday every year. People can suffer from travel sickness with varying degrees of severity, but it is certainly never an enjoyable experience. It really can ruin holidays and make you long to go home. So what are the best ways to prevent you luxury cruises leading to disaster?
.) Position of your cabin. When you book your cruise, tell the agent that you suffer from motion sickness and they will locate you cabin nearer to the centre of the ship. This will minimise the amount of movement that your cabin experiences, even on gentle river cruises and will dramatically reduce the chances of feeling ill.
.) Eating ginger. Ginger has been a motion sickness preventive for many many years. Its natural ingredients minimize the gag-reflex response signals that are sent to the stomach from the brain and will help to stop you being sick. You may however still feel a little nauseous as ginger doesn’t prevent this.
.) Walking about. You might not think its works but you’d be surprised. One contributing factor to sea sickness is the fact that the boats movement is alien to our brains. If you’re up and about and able to walk around the whole boat for a little while you movement sensory organs will begin to be more comfortable with the sensations and you feel much better
.) Motion sickness tablets. This is probably the most widespread method and arguable the most effective at reducing motion sickness. These tablets work to reduce the sensitivity of the brain to movement receptors around the body, therefore decreasing the disorientation and dizziness it feels. This also means however that they may make you a little drowsy, so mind which activities you take part in when you’re on them. Your should take the recommended number of tablets at least an hour before the boat starts to move so that the chemicals are already absorbed into the body. This will mean that you’ll be protected against sickness from the minute you step on the boat.
